MTT Open Day Report

Posted by Robert Hampton on 27th June 2012 at 10:24 pm

The first Merseyside Transport Trust open day at their new headquarters was held on 4th June and by all accounts was a big success. Transport enthusiasts from all over the North West and further afield descended on Burscough to see and ride on the MTT’s heritage buses.

Many also took the opportunity to climb up into the 502 and have a look around, to see what work we have carried out and the scale of the task facing us in the future. Feedback was generally positive, with many people saying how great it is to finally see the unit secure and indoors – we agree!

Thanks to the new members who signed up on the day, and also to the many people who dropped their loose change into the donation box.

The pictures below show the interior of the unit as it appeared on the day. They were provided by Robert Yelland who has kindly permitted us to use his images here on the web site. Click on a thumbnail to enlarge the image.

Nice to see this unit again I spent around 15 years working on these things keeping them going at Birkenhead North T.M.D. Most of them got scrapped from the Birkenhead docks site they were parked up at, but this one was saved, sadly not to well looked after, but now your 502 friends group has it maybe it will ride again one day, good luck Marty Lawrence 502 fitter retired.
