It’s been a busy time for the Friends of the 502 Group recently. Here’s a summary of recent happenings.

New sponsor

We are grateful to Ormskirk Paints & DIY of 95 Burscough Street, Ormskirk, L39 2EL. The owner, Gill Shepherd, has agreed to supply us with paint and supplies to help with the restoration of the 502.

The group are grateful to Gill for the support. If you are in the Ormskirk area and need DIY or Paint supplies, please consider giving Ormskirk Paints & DIY your custom.

The first cut is the deepest

The pictures below show the work carried out on Saturday 23rd June, when the first sections of the outer bodyside were removed from the unit. This work has been undertaken so that the full extent of the corrosion to the internal framework can be assessed and repaired.

Removal of the body-side has also allowed us to see for the first time how both the body-side frame and the corrugated floor sections are attached to the chassis.

Thanks to Paul Gorton for the use of the photos above.

Woodvale Rally

The 502 Group will have a stand at the Woodvale Rally, which is taking place this weekend: 28th and 29th July. This year the event has a new venue – Victoria Park in Southport.

502 Group members will be on hand to talk about the ongoing work and our shop will be selling various bits of merchandise.

Of course, all the usual Woodvale attractions will be present. Vintage cars, military vehicles, rail-related exhibits and an variety of entertainment will be present. More information is available on the Woodvale Rally web site.
